Sabapathy Tirupathi Ramana is an upcoming South Indian Carnatic flute talent in the Singapore music scene. He has been learning the Carnatic flute in the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) since he was seven years old, and has been taught by Sri V. K. Sivakumar for the past decade. Ramana had the unique opportunity of learning under the late world-renowned flute maestro Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. N. Ramani, and his grandson Sri Athulkumar Rangarajan, in 2012. Ramana obtained a Diploma in Carnatic Flute shortly before completing his Arangetram (solo debut concert), SIFAS’s first ever Flute Arangetram, in July 2016.
Ramana has won the first prize in prestigious national competitions such as the Singapore National Arts Council’s Indian Music Competition. He has performed as part of the SIFAS Alumni orchestra in various venues in Singapore. Ramana was selected to perform at The Music Academy in Chennai, India, the most prestigious Carnatic performance venue, in December 2015 and 2016, and is now a regular performer in Singapore’s music scene. He has also performed at the Sree Neelakantha Sivan Sangeetha Sabha in Kerala, India, in July 2017, as well as Singapore’s main music venue, Esplanade Theatres By The Bay. Ramana is currently pursuing his music education under Sri Shashank Subramanyam, a world-renowned exponent of the Carnatic flute.
