David Forest was born in Birmingham.

His first taste of the arts came between 1952 and 1954 while doing National Service in R.A.F Sec Admin Branch when he wrote verse for radio programme Much Binding (which succeeded Much Binding In the Marsh). He also wrote songs "without any success".

After qualifying as a solicitor, he worked in the law profession until 1972 when he retired and did The Knowledge, becoming a London cab driver from 1972-1973.

David is qualified as a blue badge London tourist guide and since 1986 has led tours of highlights of the British Museum

A series of features and talks on BBC Radios 2 and 4 and World Service led to Equity membership and roles in fringe theatre, TV and films (1991 onwards).

In 1993 he performed his first one man show, Entertaining Changes.

In 2008, after a 50 year gap, he resumed songwriting. His current one man show, Playing With Myself, was first performed in 2014.
