Welcome to Freedom Canal Studio. I’m Captain David, the business owner, and I live aboard with my Burmese husband, Pyae. Freedom is a 70ft x 12ft widebeam canal boat. It was built in Poland in 2017 with a sunroof to fit the grand piano in, which also gives the galley & saloon a beautiful light open space for entertaining, making music, eating and sleeping. Guests who sleep in the saloon at night often have the sunroof open to see the stars.
We accommodate over 100 guests for B&B in our floating home each summer and host several parties and events such as Bath Piano Circle. There is a bow deck with hammock, a stern deck with seats and a 40ft roof garden to explore.
For 5 years Freedom cruised in and around London’s canals. Summer 2022 was spent on the Thames including visits to Reading and Oxford. Since 2023 Freedom has been in and around Bath.
I am also an owner/Director of a music production business. I previously did research in ecological entomology, taught biology and psychology, and founded Rutland Telecom which was the first company to deliver fibre optic broadband internet into rural villages before This included a David & Goliath battle with BT which became too stressful, resulting in me giving the company to Gigaclear. A lifestyle change 10 years ago found me living on the canals of London.
Pyae owns his own housekeeping services business called My Valet. He has also worked in 5* hotels in Yangon and Bath, and had a smoothie business in Yangon before relocating to the UK in 2023.
